In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
In few ways our media product uses, develops and challenges forms and conventions of real media product; it being a music video. Trough doing multiple music video analysis and other types of research into music videos. We have came up with a good idea of what makes a good music video and what types of forms and conventions it involves in making music video.
We followed the specific codes and conventions of a singer song writer genre as we wanted to carry on the feeling and what it portraits to the audience. In this shot you can see the actual writer of a song performer with a guitar in the music video which is one of the main conventions of this sub genre, multiple artist such as Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift perform them self in their music videos and produce a story trough their songs that's what we aimed to do as well as to have our artist to be the main character in the music video and perform in it as well.
We used other types of codes and conventions such as close up of guitar which relates closely to Ed Sheeran because you can allays see him playing guitar and having all of his songs have a guitar in them. That's where we got the idea from to have the artist use guitar in the music video. Furthermore other ideas that we used that challenge forms and conventions in a music video is a story that has beginning and a end thus allowing audience to see a whole story withing a song, other artist like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran use this approach to music video because it very popular within the singer song writer genre of music.
As you can see from these screen shots that there is a story that follows the song or vice versa. In this scenario Taylor swift is performing and acting out the story her self being the main character in the song. This further follows codes and conventions of singer song writer as this is what inspired us to do so. But not always artist use them self as the main character of the song this is where they differ from codes and forms of a music video. There for we tried to avoid this because we wanted the our music video to feel more personal and more up close with the audience, we didn't want to brake the form and convention that most artist use. We agreed to follow the forms, code and conventions of a singer song writer music video as closely as possible to allow the audience to get most professional final product possible, we arrived at this conclusion trough multiple research and planing post that we did using google and YouTube analyzing artist videos and ideas.
