What is iconography?

Iconography is important aspect of media, it plays big part in identification of genre and sub-genre. We as an audience expect to see certain things on screen for certain genre of music for example when we watch a pop music video we expect to see lots of skin, flashy colours, dancing and other related things. As for other type of genre like rock we expect to see the dark themed places with more focused band performance instead of story driven music videos.
